Thanks to HP's built-in CoolSense technology you should be able to work comfortably with the laptop in your lap, though the fans can get a little noisy at times. Over on the left side you'll find a slim, little vent, which pushes out cool-to-warm air, depending on how much you're taxing the PC. That power button, by the way, is very narrow, and slightly recessed, which makes it tricky to press with the pad of your finger you might need to dig a nail in there, which is unfortunate considering how often you'll be turning on the machine. Returning to the keyboard deck, there's a fingerprint reader tucked on the right side of the palm rest above the keys is the power button, along with dedicated buttons for muting the sound and turning off WiFi. The only compromise here seems to be the lack of an HDMI port, though perhaps that's of less importance to business users than VGA output or a DisplayPort. That said, it's still easy to carry around, especially if you're used to schlepping something in the five-pound range.Ĭontinuing our tour, other ports include three USB 3.0 connections, a VGA socket, a DisplayPort, a headphone jack, Kensington lock slot, an SD slot and a SmartCard reader. It's also thicker, at 0.74 inch, but that makes sense: it has an Ethernet jack and the Carbon doesn't. Still, at 3.6 pounds it's quite a bit heavier than the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon, which tips in at three pounds, flat. The fact that this meets Intel's Ultrabook specifications should tell you this is a fairly thin, lightweight machine. Then again, unless you own a gaming rig with a fire-breathing dragon spray-painted on it, any laptop would be appropriate, no? If you look closely enough, you can tell this is a business machine - that tracking stick, for one, is sort of a dead giveaway. At the same time (and this should go without saying) it's still conservative enough that you can safely whip it out during your next business meeting. All told, it feels a little less buttoned-up than other business notebooks, a little more consumer-friendly. And though the keyboard deck is still made of brushed aluminum, the effect is much more subtle this time out. Whereas HP's previous EliteBooks were clad in serious-looking brushed metal, the Folio has a more playful feel, with a soft-touch finish coating both the lid and bottom side. Even so, it's more stylish than we would have expected a corporate system to be. If you look closely enough, you can tell this is a business machine - that tracking stick, for one, is sort of a dead giveaway. So does it perform well enough to use as a work-play machine? Read on to find out.īy subscribing, you are agreeing to Engadget's Terms and Privacy Policy. The thing is, though, the EliteBook Folio isn't your typical corporate box: with a magnesium frame and soft-touch finish, it's attractive enough that it could pass for your personal laptop. We know, we know: "pre-boot authentication" aren't exactly the sexiest words in the English language, and indeed, we usually just review laptops aimed at consumers. The EliteBook Folio ($1,049 and up) has a 14-inch screen this time, and is the first Ultrabook in HP's high-end EliteBook line, typically aimed at corporations and other businesses with IT departments. Now, though, almost a year after we reviewed the Folio 13, HP is back where it started with another business offering. Ultrabooks that aren't actually Ultrabooks! It's a vast, sometimes confusing selection. Since then, of course, HP's gone a little overboard with the ultraportables, with glass ones, metal ones, expensive ones, budget ones. HP made five, with the Folio 13, an ultraportable that was aimed at the business market, but that ended up being our top all-around pick thanks to its stellar battery life, comfortable keyboard and wide port selection. So few, in fact, that we could count them on one hand: Acer, ASUS, Lenovo and Toshiba. It's sort of wild to think that at this time last year we had only reviewed a handful of Ultrabooks. HP unveils second business Ultrabook, the EliteBook Folio.

It will reacquire its network connection and (hopefully) resolve any connection issues. Unplug your Fire TV Stick from the wall outlet, wait 30 seconds, and then plug it back in. Turn it off, then turn it on again – is there any problem that can’t fix? Well, yes, lots of problems, but a simple power cycle does remain the quickest and most obvious way to try to fix a computer problem, and your Fire TV Stick is basically just a small Android computer. If the network is up and running for things other than Netflix, then the issue is not in the network (though it may be in the Fire TV Stick’s specific connection to the network). If the Fire TV Stick is the only device on the network, then try logging in to another streaming channel, or look at the router. See if they can connect and if they have Internet service. For most households, there are usually multiple devices connecting to the WiFi and not solely the Amazon Fire TV Stick. The easiest way to check this is to connect from another device, like a smartphone or a computer. Program initiatives and activities include measuring hepatitis B and hepatitis C incidence and prevalence, working with the medical community to improve clinical and prevention activities, and promoting best practices for people to get vaccinated for hepatitis A and hepatitis B. The Health Department’s Viral Hepatitis Program is working to prevent and address hepatitis B and hepatitis C. For more information on hepatitis B and hepatitis C prevention and where to be treated, visit. Hepatitis C, however, is curable with medication. While there is no cure for hepatitis B, treatments are available to alleviate symptoms and to reduce liver damage. The Centers for Disease Control recommends adults 18 years and older get tested for both hepatitis B and hepatitis C at least once in their lifetime. You can also prevent the spread of hepatitis B and hepatitis C by practicing safer sex, not sharing household items such as razors, tweezers, and toothbrushes, using new syringes and works every time, and making sure your tattoo artist or piercer uses sterile equipment. Talk to your provider or visit to find a vaccinating pharmacy near you. Vaccines are available for both hepatitis A and hepatitis B. However, there are several ways to protect yourself from hepatitis A, B, & C. Unfortunately, these types of infections that cause liver inflammation cannot be cured by cutting back on spicy margaritas at happy hour or trying Hollywood’s latest herbal liver detox. When left untreated, hepatitis B and hepatitis C can cause serious liver damage or liver cancer, and death. All three viruses cause acute or short infections, but hepatitis B and hepatitis C cause chronic or lifelong disease for many people. Symptoms of viral hepatitis infections can include fever, nausea, jaundice, and abdominal pain. Hepatitis A, while more uncommon than hepatitis B and hepatitis C, is highly contagious, and is spread when the feces, or poop, of a sick person comes in contact with food or drink, or through close contact with other people. Hepatitis B is spread these ways and spread through vaginal fluid. Hepatitis B and hepatitis C are spread through contact with blood and semen of people living with the infection. In Philadelphia, recent data tells us that 24,633 people in the city were living with chronic hepatitis B in 2021 while 52,640 people were living with chronic hepatitis C. The most common types of viruses in the US that cause liver infections are hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C. While folks usually assume liver inflammation is caused by heavy alcohol use, toxins, and side effects from certain medications, it is important to know it is also caused by viral infections. So, hepatitis means your liver is inflamed. A college-level medical terminology course would teach you that the prefix “hepat-” means liver and the suffix “-itis” means inflammation. While Muslims welcome a firm stance against bigotry, many Muslims fear that the vague bill could be misused by Islamists, who could pull the Islamophobia card against opponents of blasphemy and apostasy laws, and even use it to justify violence in the name of “standing against haters of Islam.” I am a Muslim and strongly agree with Masih Alinejad in her objection of the Islamophobia bill. As Masih Alinejad highlighted, the bill does not provide a clear definition of Islamophobia or differentiates between what constitutes hate against Muslims and what is a fair and appropriate criticism of oppressive ideologies and regimes. Omar’s bill on Islamophobia shows a distinct lack of clarity, and is a glaring example of vagueness. What both Ani Osman-Zonneveld and Masih Alinejad wanted was clarity from the Muslim Congresswoman on thorny topics that affect Muslims, such as Islamophobia versus Islamism and the barbaric practice of FGM, but asking for clarity, it seems, is considered offensive to Ilhan Omar and her fan club. She suggested that FGM had become a particular litmus test for Muslim-elected officials, one that makes assumptions about their religious and cultural identities Omar replied that the question was “appalling” and “frustrating” and that she was “quite disgusted” by it. In 2019, Omar snapped at another Muslim Human Rights advocate, Ani Osman-Zonneveld, who urged Omar to state her views on female genital mutilation (FGM). Rep. It is hard to imagine that a progressive member of Congress, a fellow woman of colour, and her husband, would be hostile to a fellow Muslim fighting against oppressive practices of Islamists. In 2020, Omar shared a defamatory article about Masih on social media by a Koch Brothers-funded “think tank” co-founded by a known sympathizer of the Iranian regime. This was not the first time Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has shown hostility toward Masih Alinejad. The bill requires the State Department to include data on incidents of Islamophobia in its reports on human rights. Omar’s Islamophobia bill, which was adopted by the US House of Representatives, mandates the creation of a State Department office to combat Islamophobia around the world. The Congresswoman’s office responded to Masih’s article by accusing the Iranian journalist of “rehashing bigoted Republican talking points.” When Muslim-born Iranian journalist and women’s rights campaigner Masih Alinejad wrote why she opposed a bill against Islamophobia introduced by US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, Mr Tim Mynett, Omar’s husband, a political consultant, immediately tweeted that “this lady” (Masih) did not like Muslims.īesides this offensive tweet, Masih Alinejad was dismissed by Rep. “So this lady doesn’t want to combat Islamophobia,” “she just doesn’t like Muslims.” |
